Launched on 29 March 2023, the aim of the survey is to obtain valuable customer insights both through face-to-face interviews at the zoo and via the online questionnaire on the zoo website. The survey, conducted in collaboration with the renowned market research institute DWIF Consulting GmbH, will allow Hellabrunn to analyse and improve the visitor experience. Customer feedback is one of the most valuable resources for any business or service provider. The results of this long-term survey will provide the zoo in Munich with important statistical data on visitor behaviour and preferences, enabling it to better understand and meet the needs of its guests.

The survey will run from 29 March 2023 through March 2024. Interviews on the zoo grounds will be conducted by trained interviewers on different days of the week each month. They will ask visitors about various aspects of their visit before they leave the zoo. There will usually be three to four interviewers present at any one time at the zoo. These are employees of DWIF Consulting GmbH, who will wear a Hellabrunn Zoo vest to indicate they are authorised personnel commissioned by the zoo. The results of the survey will help to evaluate the educational and wildlife experiences on offer as well as the expectations of guests, and enable the zoo to gather information about the demographics of the visitors.

Survey participation at the zoo or online

Rasem Baban, zoological director of Hellabrunn Zoo, welcomes the survey participation options available: “With the face-to-face survey, we have a great deal of flexibility during the interview. The personal approach makes it possible to answer questions directly and also to ask questions. We are excited about the final results and look forward to many Hellabrunn fans taking part and supporting us with their feedback – whether in person at the zoo or via our online questionnaire.”

Dennis Späth, head of communications, looks forward to the survey: "We have been planning this project for a long time, but were unable to implement it between 2020 and 2022 due to restrictions imposed by the coronavirus pandemic. Now we can finally get started and gather extensive feedback from our guests. The anonymous interviews – on the zoo grounds or online - last about ten minutes and are designed in compliance with the current data protection guidelines. As a token of our gratitude for the interviews, we offer small gifts to those participating at the zoo and all participants have a chance to win attractive prizes in our prize draw. So it’s definitely worth participating!”

The online questionnaire will soon be available at www.hellabrunn.de/besucherbefragung. The terms and conditions specified apply.
