Following the warm summer months, during which some animal species could often only be spotted whilst resting, a stroll through the zoo is now particularly worthwhile. For example, the Przewalski’s wild horses, along with their two foals, have recently been on display in their new enclosure between the Rhinoceros House and Mühlendorf. Since their move, the Bactrian camels can now also be seen once again in the large steppe enclosure. Matteo, the Central American tapir, is also gradually getting used to his new surroundings and is therefore becoming easier to spot in his outdoor enclosure.

A visit to the new Jungle World is also well worth it: things are bustling amongst the pygmy otters in the outdoor enclosure. A little further on, in the outdoor area of the World of Small Monkeys, there is plenty to explore: Brown-headed spider monkeys and siamangs are enjoying the autumn sun, whilst the colourful autumn foliage provides a special backdrop. And when the weather is warmer, the silver gibbons show off their acrobatic manoeuvres. Anyone passing by the Isar entrance should also take a look at the Kirk’s dik-diks. With a little patience, you can spot these little antelopes there too.

Also brand new at Hellabrunn are the holiday programmes for children aged ten and over, accompanied by an adult. Kicking things off on 6 and 7 November is the two-day course ‘Hellabrunn under the microscope – discovering nature with binoculars’. Guided tours of the zoo are on the programme on both days. After a lunch break, the group heads to the Jungle World research room, where participants can discover fascinating details of nature using binoculars and microscopes. Further information and the option to register are available at www.hellabrunn.de/ferienprogramm

Hellabrunn is open daily from 9 am to 6 pm until 24 October inclusive. From 25 October, winter opening hours will apply: the zoo will then close daily at 5 pm.
