Mitchell´s Lorikeet

The Mitchell’s lorikeet has a brush-tipped tongue that can extract nectar and pollen from flowers. Due to its brilliantly colourful plumage, it was trapped for the bird trade and became extinct in the wild. Today, the species exists only in European zoos and private avicultural collections as part of a conservation breeding programme.
