Lightweight
Weighing only 7 – 11 g, the harvest mouse is perfectly adapted to life at heights of up to 80 cm and spends little time on the ground. To help it climb up vegetation, it uses its prehensile tail as an extra limb. It also has opposable toes on its hindfeet, allowing it to grip stems up to 7 mm thick.
When threatened, the Eurasian harvest mouse may freeze in place or suddenly drop to the ground.
