Marché International: New restaurant operator at Hellabrunn Zoo
On Thursday, 4 January 2018, the Munich Zoo restaurant opened its doors for the first time under the new operator Marché International – one day later than scheduled due to Storm Eleanor.
The zoo restaurant was closed for two days to allow the new operator to install its own concept. The Marché employees set to work immediately and built a vegetarian island that offers visitors to Hellabrunn a wide selection of homemade vegetarian and vegan salads, dressings and toppings. Visitors can also sample a range of freshly squeezed juices.
The restaurant was scheduled to reopen on 3 January, however the zoo had to be closed on that day due to exceptional weather: the arrival of Storm Eleanor forced the launch to be postponed until 4 January. Apart from salads, the new restaurant also serves a selection of Bavarian specialties and delicious desserts.
"Marché made quite an impression during the tendering process with its tailor-made concept for Hellabrunn Zoo,” says zoo director Rasem Baban. “Here Marché will combine traditional, seasonal cuisine made from regional produce with its established culinary ambience and live cooking stations.” The restaurant will subsequently be renovated in winter 2018/2019 to incorporate the theme of the zoo’s nearby Mühlendorf village and the Marché gastronomy concept. Upon completion, the restaurant will offer an even wider selection of great food.
The zoo restaurant is a large self-service restaurant with a capacity of 1,100 seats. The seating is arranged to give visitors the option of either eating inside or enjoying lunch on the beautiful terrace. The spacious restaurant is not only ideal for zoo visitors during the day, but also offers an unforgettable location for corporate events, weddings, etc.
