TripAdvisor announced 289 winners for its Travellers' Choice Awards for zoos and aquariums around the globe. The awards are based on the opinions of millions of visitors over the past year. The winners were determined using an algorithm that took into account the quantity and quality of reviews for zoos and aquariums worldwide over a twelve-month period. Hellabrunn Zoo in Munich was awarded second place in the Travellers' Choice Awards for Germany for the second consecutive year. Only the Berlin Zoological Garden scored higher among German zoos.

"We are delighted with this magnificent award. It is a reward for the hard work of our employees as well as an incentive to continue on the path of development towards a GeoZoo specialising in biodiversity," says Hellabrunn's zoo director Rasem Baban, clearly pleased with the new award and the positive feedback from zoo visitors.

Founded in 1911 in Munich, Hellabrunn Zoo is one of the most distinguished scientifically managed zoos in Europe. Visitors to Hellabrunn will be greeted by 40 hectares of natural paradise in a nature reserve along the banks of the Isar River. The zoo is home to more than 750 species of exotic and domestic animals living in spacious, modern enclosures. In 2014, Hellabrunn Zoo achieved a new attendance record of almost 2.3 million visitors. One of the main attractions that contributed to the surge in visitor numbers at the Munich zoo was the birth of the polar bear twins Nela and Nobby.
