Our polar bears

Giovanna: The Beauty

Giovanna was born on 28 November 2006 in Fasano, Italy. Her father Felix was born in Berlin on 16 December 1994. Her mother Marissa was born on 25 December 1993 in Kolmården, Sweden. A firm favourite with the visitors, Giovanna is considered a polar bear of exceptional beauty. She loves playing games and constantly invents new ones. This includes chasing any ball after pushing it away and spending time experimenting with different objects to see how far she can let them stick out from a cliff before they eventually fall down. On 9 December 2013, Giovanna gave birth to the polar bear twins Nela and Nobby, who were eventually transferred under the European Endangered Species Programme (EEP) for polar bears in spring 2016 to join bachelor groups at the Wildlands Adventure Zoo Emmen in the Netherlands and the Yorkshire Wildlife Park in England, respectively.
On 21 November 2016 Giovanna gave birth to a daughter called Quintana.

Quintana: The Active

Quintana was born on 21 November 2016 at Hellabrunn Zoo. By the age of three months, she was already a very active and powerful polar bear girl weighing just under 10 kg. On 24 February 2017, she emerged from the mothering den with her mum Giovanna into public view for the first time. Since then, Quintana loves frolicking around in the tundra enclosure and playing in the pool. For the first year of her life, the adorable cub will be sponsored by the German broadcaster Pro Sieben as part of its Green Seven sustainability campaign. In summer 2017, the channel will also dedicate one day to raising awareness for its Green Seven: Save The Ice campaign. The highlight of the day's programming will be a compelling documentary on the increasingly shrinking natural habitat of the polar bear. Quintana is therefore not only an ambassador at the zoo, but also for her threatened natural habitat.

Yoghi: The Cool (deceased 13 April 2017)

Yoghi was born on 29 November 1999 in Pistoia Zoo in Italy, where his mum Bimba was also born on 6 December 1987. His father Romeo was born on 25 November 1978 in Colorado Springs, USA. Yoghi arrived at Hellabrunn Zoo in May 2007. He is the father of the polar bears, Nela and Nobby (born 2013) and Quintana (born 2016). On 13 April 2017, Yoghi died unexpectedly from chronic renal failure.
