Hellabrunn Zoo is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Germany

In a survey of the most popular tourist attractions in Germany, foreign visitors ranked Hellabrunn Zoo in 23rd place of the Top 100. "We are delighted that Hellabrunn has received this outstanding rating in Germany,” says zoo director Rasem Baban. “This is a great acknowledgement of the services we provide at our zoo." With its idyllic location in a nature reserve on the banks of the Isar river, Hellabrunn Zoo is now officially the most popular tourist attraction in Munich. The zoo is open seven days a week to visitors, who are invited to venture on a journey through the 40-hectare park and meet the 750 different species. Hellabrunn is a particularly attractive destination for families, who find the zoo offers plenty of adventure for a day trip, and is open year-round.

The survey was conducted by the German National Tourist Board (GNTB) and targeted exclusively at foreign visitors, who were able to vote for their most popular attraction via the website www.germany.travel/en. The GNTB placed no demands on the respondents so that tourists were able to answer questions about their favourite destinations in Germany anonymously. In total, 40,000 holidaymakers from 66 countries took part in the survey from March to August 2016.

The variety of attractions in the Top 100 ranges from famous buildings to historical sites as well as natural landscapes, sports centres and recreational parks. Major events are also included in the Top 100. Detailed results are available at www.germany.travel/top-100.

The German National Tourist Board (GNTB) has been commissioned by the German Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) to promote the positive image of Germany as a tourist destination abroad. To achieve this aim, the agency develops strategies and products to present Germany as an attractive travel destination for tourists. One of these measures is compiling a ranking of the Top 100 tourist destinations in Germany.
